Medicare Advantage Plans
If you were to read the words Medicare supplemental insurance Pennsylvania, what would come to mind? I read this the other day and started to do some research on my own and found that this is supplemental insurance to traditional Medicare that is available for seniors once they turn 65. This coverage helps bridge the gap between your out-of-pocket expenses and the items that Medicare will cover. In my research I found that this type of coverage is very cost effective and definitely worth the monthly premium payments that are associated with it. I was surprised to learn that Medicare supplement providers are simply private insurance companies that offer seniors these valuable plans.
Your Medicare benefits begin on the first day of the month that you turn 65. At that time you have the option of enrolling in Medicare Plan B or staying with insurance that may be provided by your employer if you are still working. Medicare gap insurance is only available to seniors if they are enrolled in both Medicare plans. There is a bonus for seniors as well, if they enroll within six months of being eligible for Medicare coverage they will have guaranteed issue; meaning they will not have to go through the underwriting process regardless of the condition of their health. Since most seniors are on a fixed income in their retirement years this means that they have to budget their money down to the very last penny in order to make ends meet. Medicare supplements are so cost-effective that the premium rates that are offered are so low they will fit into anyone’s budget.
Another option for seniors is a Medicare advantage plan, which means that you have the option of getting your traditional Medicare directly through the government or you can switch to a private insurance carrier who will administer the plan. This must be done during the Medicare enrollment period which is typically towards the end of each calendar year. This year the open enrollment began on October 15 and will run through December 7. This will give you plenty of time to contact your Medigap provider to make arrangements to get this valuable coverage. You can also call 1-800-MEDIGAP and have one of the many professionals help you through the enrollment process and answer any questions you may have concerning supplemental coverage. They will be happy to assist you through this process so there are no delays in coverage.
